Yves KLEIN Yves Klein 1928-1962 French - Painter and Performer
Despite a brief career, Yves Klein is considered to be one of the major figures of post-war European art. As a youth he was passionate about judo and considered it a method of intellectual and moral education. For pleasure he painted monochromes inspired by the philosophical secret society of Rosicrucianism and in 1955 his life changes forever meeting the art critic Pierre Restany. This decisive encounter launches his artistic career and in 1957 Klein begins the "Blue Period". Yves selects an existing ultramarine blue from which he elaborates on with the help of a chemist and coins it "International Klein Blue". With the success of the "Blue Period" he becomes an internationally renowned artist and co-founds the "New Realism" movement with Arman and under the leadership of Pierre Restany.
