Wim DELVOYE

Wim DELVOYEWim Delvoye (born in Wervik, Belgium, January 14th,1965)

Born in 1965 the Belgium artist Wim Delvoye lives and works in Ghent, Belguim. In 2000, for the first time ever Wim presents "Cloaca", at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Antwerp, the installation is a reproduction of a true digestive system (in which food inserted inside the machine comes out the other side in the form of excrement). The success of this exhibition spawns several "Cloaca" machine performances and exhibitions around the world. Wim Delvoye also has a pig farm in China where once a week, the pigs are tattooed under anesthesia in order to make them true works of art. The tattoos created are inspired by pop culture such as: Disney Princesses, Mr. Clean, Louis Vuitton logo, etc... When the pig dies the skin is tanned, then framed and sold, and in some occasions even stuffed!
Delvoye is known for questioning the consumer society and especially the art market itself. Mixing religion, politics and sexuality all in one, his artwork are always provocative.
